Two Homes, One Timeless Pattern
Few flooring patterns carry the same architectural presence as the herringbone. Elegant, rhythmic, and unmistakably classic, it has been used for centuries to bring structure, warmth and refinement to interior spaces.
At Hørning, our herringbone floors are crafted in Denmark with the same dedication to longevity that has defined our production for a century. Designed to withstand daily life while aging beautifully, they are made to last for generations with the right care.
Part of the herringbone’s enduring appeal is its versatility. With a wide selection of dimensions, wood species and gradings, architects and homeowners can shape the exact expression they envision, whether for a serene private home or a grand public hall.
Two recent residential projects show just how differently – and how beautifully – herringbone can define a space.
Vestre Paradisvej: Calm, Nature and Contemporary Architecture
In this architect-designed villa by Lundhild Arkitekter, nature and modern living coexist seamlessly. The design intent was clear: to create a calm, light-filled home where materials play an essential role in shaping the atmosphere.
Inside, a Hørning herringbone oak floor anchors the interior with its warm tones and timeless geometry. The pattern adds movement without noise and creates a quiet, grounding rhythm throughout the space.
Here, the floor is not simply a surface, but a long-term design investment: durable, elegant and meant to be lived with for decades.

Fruering Kirkevej: A Modern Family Home Framed by Light
Also designed by Lundhild Arkitekter, this single-storey villa replaces an older mahogany house with a long, unifying roofline that invites natural light deep into the plan.
Dark window frames and exterior timber cladding contrast beautifully with the pale brickwork, while the restrained architectural language allows the surrounding landscape to take centre stage.
Inside the home, the living room and kitchen-dining space open toward terraces on all sides. Large panes of glass make the greenery feel close, and the result is an airy, generous atmosphere ideal for family life.
A Hørning herringbone floor brings coherence to the interior. Its warm oak tones soften the crisp architectural lines and ensure that the spacious rooms remain inviting and comfortable. The pattern’s timeless sophistication balances the modern façade, giving the home depth and character without overwhelming its simplicity.
A Pattern That Belongs to Every Generation
From historic townhouses to contemporary villas, the herringbone floor continues to resonate because it combines aesthetic clarity with unmatched durability.
It is a surface that can carry the weight of daily family life, be renewed over time and remain a defining feature of the architecture for generations.
At Hørning, we are proud to see our tailor-made herringbone floors shaping these homes, quietly, elegantly and with a beauty that only grows with time.
